What does a dream catcher do?
 
The hoop: - The sun's journey across the sky, and the continuous circle of life.
The web: - Like a spider web it is believed to trap negative energy and bad dreams.
The feathers: - Allow the good dreams to slide into the person's mind.
The beads: - Can be either the bad dreams being trapped and turned into the morning dew, or symbolising the spider who wove the web.
 
Any bad dreams caught in the web are destroyed by the first light of the morning sun.
 
Where did dream catchers come from?
 
They originated with the Ojibwe Nation (Chippewa) in the Great Lakes region of North America. Spreading across the country through trade and marriage.
 
The legend goes that a spiritual protector named "Asibikaashi" (the spider woman) cared for all children, as the tribes spread across North America it became harder for her to reach all the children. The women of the tribe began to weave the webs so that Asibikaashi could protect the children from afar.
